The Inception Of Exige – An Introduction

How did Exige come to be? What do we do and what do we strive for?

To answer these questions let me take you back to my days studying mathematics in university. As a young adult, in classrooms filled with chalk dust, I first found my passion for mathematical proofs. Solving mathematical problems that seemed daunting and abstract gave me a newfound sense of satisfaction and sparked a passion for solving any sort of puzzle. Entering the workforce out of school, I started my first job in operations as a wide eyed, baby faced, energetic young adult who wanted nothing more than to prove my value. Two months into my first role as an operations specialist, I was asked to take on some new tasks to help clear a backlog. Fueled by copious amounts of coffee, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. Time seemed to fly by that day, and the end of the 3rd day I was pulled aside by my manager who was positively perplexed that the entire backlog was gone. In 3 days, I had completed what was supposed to be over 2 weeks worth of work. By following what seemed like logical steps, and using the technology available to my advantage, I had inadvertently, and drastically, improved the team’s efficiency going forward. My eyes suddenly opened to the puzzles hidden in the business world and I was hooked.

From that day on, I took every opportunity to find new ways to do things. Each task I did, each team I worked with presented a new problem to solve. As my career progressed I began auditing processes and team performance which added another layer to this fascinating living organism that was operations. I started measuring metrics for performance, continuing to look for efficiencies and without realizing it, I slowly connected my passion for puzzles with an obsession for creating efficient businesses. Learning to utilize my developing toolbox of skills, I connected the dots to the impact I had seen between creating efficiencies in the work, using audits and metrics in the pursuit of improvement, and the profound impacts of using the right technology efficiently.

I continued my career dedicating myself to taking new roles and learning as much about operations as I could. Eventually, I began my role as a Professor of Business Analytics, specializing in Solutions Evaluation and Database Design where I fell in love with passing on my experiences to students. I got to spend my time discussing different approaches to evaluating technology to develop a seamless tech stack, and designing databases to drive data driven decisions in business.

The creation of Exige Consulting was a perfect storm. My personal priorities began shifting with an expanded family and the joy of exploring my chosen subjects drove my desire to do more. While working with talented Enablement teams, who excelled at helping people maximize their potential, I noticed that there were two sides to truly optimizing operations – technical expertise to devise a solution mixed with the ability to enable individuals with the skills required to capitalize on the technology available. I realized I could have a bigger impact than consulting with a single company. I wanted to help more people, explore more business problems, and continue my work to create successful, sustainable solutions.

With this, Exige Consulting was born.
